The club also reached the European Cup semi-final in 1983, losing 3-2 on aggregate to Hamburger SV, which later lifted the title. Real Sociedad won its first Copa del Rey title in 1987 after beating Atletico Madrid 4-2 on penalties following a 2-2 draw in regular time.
The club last won a trophy in the 2019/20 season, beating its bitter rival Athletic Club in the Copa del Rey final to lift the title. Alexander Isak scored seven goals that season to claim the top scorer award.
