Buy Millwall Tickets Through VisitFootball

Millwall tickets for the Championship 2024/2025 season are on sale on Visitfootball.

Millwall is one of the oldest clubs in English football, having been founded in 1885 (139 years ago). Shortly after its creation, the Lions became the founding council of the Southern League, one of the best semi-professional leagues in the country at the time. Millwall competed in the Southern League for more than two decades, winning the title in two consecutive seasons (1895 and 1896).

Due to the club’s growing stature, it was invited to join the Football League in the 1920/21 season, where it has spent the majority of its history to date. The Eagles have played English football between the second and third tiers. They have also played in the top division twice, spending some time in the top flight between 1988 and 1990.

The club gained promotion to the top flight in the 1988/89 season, which remains the club’s most eventful season to date. Millwall finished tenth in its debut season in the top flight, which wasn’t enough to secure European qualification. However, the club achieved this feat after reaching the 2004 FA Cup final, losing 3-0 to Manchester United, but qualified for the UEFA Cup (now Europa League) due to its final appearance in the former tournament.

The club’s European campaign ended in a close aggregate defeat to Hungarian side Ferencvaros, losing 4-2 to the champions from Hungary. This loss sent Millwall into a downward spiral, which saw the Lions suffer relegation back to League One, going through four managers in the 2005/06 season alone.

Fast-forward to the 2016/17 season. Millwall had a great run in several domestic competitions, including the FA Cup. The Lions reached the quarter-finals for a club record tenth time, defeating several Premier League clubs in three successive rounds, including Leicester City, Bournemouth, and Watford. The club has since maintained a strong record in the Championship.

Sadly, the club has suffered some major tragedies in the past few years, including the deaths of chairman John Berylson and first-choice goalkeeper Matija Sarkic. The former died in a car accident, having lost control of his Range Rover. The latter died while on international duty with his country, Montenegro, back in June 2024.
